10 Hard Rock Albums Critics Were Completely Wrong About

6. Relationship Of Command - At The Drive In

At the Drive In was a complete shock to the hard rock world when they burst onto the scene in the early 2000's. Off the strength of their album Relationship of Command, the band created a controlled sense of chaos that seemed to both reject and embrace every rock genre and mold them into one unique ball of noise. It may have been a musical call to arms, but the music business seemed to be more perplexed than anything else.

Upon release, this album was certainly given praise for singles like "One Armed Scissor," but most of the critics at the time were still getting used to what they were hearing. Given that this was one of the first post hardcore releases of the millennium, many of the musical big wigs were a bit skeptical when giving praise, as if they weren't entirely sure if they liked it or not.

One infamous Pitchfork review actually ended up giving the record a 6/10, but even in the review they admit that the album probably deserves more than that lukewarm score. Regardless of its weird breaking in period, Relationship of Command has gone on to become one of the most important releases for hard rock and some of the greatest examples of sonic chaos you will ever hear.
