10 Hard Rock Albums Critics Were Completely Wrong About
3. ALMOST EVERY ALBUM - Rush
Usually when you look through the back catalogs of classic bands, there is normally that one album that fans love but critics despise. No matter how much people defended it then and now, that didn't stop the critics from ignoring every other opinion so they could trash a record. Whereas it's normally just one album for classic bands, Rush has had to deal with this kind of scrutiny with every classic album they released.
From the band's first prog outings on Fly By Night to the wild experimentation of albums like 2112 and Hemispheres, critics were not really feeling this band's blend of heavy sonic movements. When talking about the negative backlash, hard rock businessman and longtime Rush supporter Cliff Burnstein mentioned that the one thing that critics hate more than anything was progressive music and heavy metal, with Rush sitting right in the middle of those two camps.
The easy targets have always been the arrangements being "too complicated" and Geddy Lee's voice being compared to everything from a deathly howl to a shrill dog. Though there have been countless bad press given to Rush over the years, the band remained strong for over 40 years and carved out one of the biggest legacies in hard rock music.
