10 Hard Rock Albums Everyone Takes For Granted
1. The Stooges - The Stooges
Most of the psychedelic scene coming from San Francisco in the late '60s prided itself on sounding pretty. While there were some exceptions like Jefferson Airplane around the same time, the inherent bliss that came from the folky side of the spectrum helped promote that feeling of utopia that almost seemed possible in the post Woodstock world. That was just on the East and West Coast...Detroit had something a little different to say with the Stooges.
Being descendants of the heavier side of rock, Iggy Pop's debut onto the main stage with the Stooges' first record was a landmark moment for rock and roll, marking the first time you heard someone this uninhibited on record. Compared to the more technical masterpieces you heard from the Beatles or the Rolling Stones, this was as back to basics as it gets, taking the fundamental chords you learn when you're just starting and turning them into weaponized versions of hard rock.
Just as loud and abrasive as it was emotional, the Stooges debut marked the beginnings of both garage rock and punk, marking the moment that rock and roll truly started to feel unpredictable and dangerous. It might not have been the most attractive of music, but if these transplants from Detroit could create something this impactful, then why not you?
