10 Hard Rock Albums Saved By One Song
4. Psychosocial - Slipknot
The All Hope is Gone period of Slipknot is one that most of the band doesn't like to revisit. While being the only album the band was able to make in their home state of Iowa, the entire group feels like they couldn't give as much as they could to the record compared to albums like Vol. 3 or the self-titled debut. Even though Maggots sent it to No. 1 on the album charts, this is often looked at as the band's worst album by default.
On the other hand, there were many saving graces on All Hope is Gone that everyone seems to turn a blind eye to. Emerging as the breakout single of the bunch, "Psychosocial" is one of the most complete songs that these guys have ever released. Centered around Joey Jordison's head-banging drumbeat, the entire track gives each member a chance to shine, with Corey Taylor's mix of singing and shrieking offset by the melodic and chaotic solo work of both Mick Thomson and Jim Root.
People might single out the ballads from the record as the worst, but "Psychosocial" has everything you could possibly want from a Slipknot song. All Hope Is Gone may be a bit contentious amongst Maggots, but most of us can agree that at least this song kicks ass.
