10 Hard Rock Albums That Are Hated By The Fans
2. Just Push Play - Aerosmith
Towards the start of the new millennium, the outlook on classic rock was starting to turn a corner. Once the '90s started to get bright and sunny again, there was a greater appreciation for what was happening with the dinosaurs of rock and roll, with KISS putting the makeup back on and Metallica releasing Garage Inc. covering some of their favorite songs from 20 years ago. The Bad Boys From Boston had a lot to celebrate as well, but something horrible starts to happen when you taste too much success.
After scoring their first No. 1 hit with I Don't Wanna Miss a Thing, Aerosmith were thinking of revamping themselves as a full on pop outfit, with Just Push Play being their first experiment with straight up pop. Though there were already inklings of pop creeping in on some of their ballads like Cryin and Crazy, you never forgot that they were still a rock band at the end of the day. The same can't be said for this record, which is timestamped in the year 2000 for its production alone, along with guitar parts so shimmery they wouldn't feel that out of place on a Britney Spears album.
At this point though, it doesn't feel like the new stuff even matters to Aerosmith, being content to just ride the momentum of their glory days for the rest of time. You can still jam out to Walk This Way all you want, but the new records aren't really meant for rock and rollers anymore.
