10 Hard Rock Albums That Are Worse Than You Remember

1. Godsmack - Godsmack

Ever since the remnants of grunge started to fizzle out in the mid '90s, there were always a slew of bands eager to walk in the footsteps of the giants. After having saviors of the rock genre like Nirvana and Pearl Jam in the early days, some of the more forgettable acts like Candlebox and Creed were starting to pick up steam around this time, each sounding more derivative than the next. If you want the sound of post grunge calling in sick though, you turn to Godsmack.

Down to their band name, the sound of Godsmack's debut record felt dated even before it hit store shelves, with Sully Erna trying his best to do a more edgy impression of Layne Staley from Alice in Chains. Seeing how Alice wasn't active during this time, this may have been a bold move, only to come crashing down when each riff sounded more recycled than the next.

From the one note syncopated rhythm of Bad Religion to the weird spiritual closer Voodoo, every single track on this record is the culmination of every bad habit the post grunge scene had coming back to bite them in the ass. For as inspiring as the old guard of grunge could be for young rock stars, when it comes to the actual grunge music, you accept no substitutes.
