10 Hard Rock Albums That Were Worth The Wait
5. AC/DC - Back In Black
Not every band can write albums that stand the test of time, but AC/DC are no ordinary band.
1979's Highway to Hell was considered the band's opus upon release, breaking ground in the US, the UK and mainland Europe with classic rock riffs, jaunty tone, and down-the-pub singalongs spearheaded by the iconic Bon Scott. The Australia-via-Scotland group seemed to be on the verge of world domination until tragedy struck the band when Scott was found dead aged just 33.
The rest of AC/DC strongly considered breaking up before intervention and encouragement from Scott's family inspired them to carry on, and enlisted the help of former Geordie vocalist Brian Johnson.
Not every band can write albums that stand the test of time, but AC/DC made two of them.
With Johnson on board, the band relocated to the Bahamas to record the new album, and in a short turnaround too. Less than six month's after Scott's passing, Back in Black was finished, quickly heralded as a staple of the hard rock and heavy metal genres. Becoming a defining point in the band's crass, pub rock legend, AC/DC turned their mourning into an album that has since gone on to be the second best-selling album of all time.
