10 Hard Rock Albums With Only One Bad Song

9. United - Judas Priest

Whenever you think of an act like Judas Priest, what are normally the first few things that come to mind? To anyone who's ever been within spitting distance of the heavy metal monarchs, chances are you picture a menacing riff and Rob Halford's powerful scream belting out over the chaos below. Though British Steel has all of that in spades, why did we have to sit through something like United?

Granted, it's not like you can't see the appeal of this kind of a song going over with Priest's audiences. Since they were always known for the everyman mentality, recording a song centered around surviving through thick and thin should just write itself, right? Well, that's the thing...there's nothing all that wrong with the song and everything wrong with the delivery of it.

With a plodding riff to kick everything off, the beat is way too jagged to headbang effectively to, which is given no favors when Halford opens his mouth and reveals to us his lower register. As much as Rob can be described as a versatile singer, this is the kind of performance that should have stayed in the past, aiming for the growl of Ozzy and ending up just sounding annoyed by the end. If the performance on BBC here is any indication, this is the sound of a pump up anthem calling in sick.
