10 Hard Rock Albums You Must Hear Before You Die
7. Highway to Hell - AC/DC
Some bands tend to see the term 'hard rock' as something far too broad for their taste.
Whether or not their riffs are actually hard-edged or not is beside the point when you have to include everything from electronic to jazz to classical compositions into the mix. Instead of being another filter of what rock and roll could be, AC/DC were able to get the job done right without any bells and whistles on Highway to Hell.
Across every single song on here, these Aussies are just a straight up rock and roll band, with songs that hit like a machete like the title track and Walk All Over You. Before Back in Black was even a glimpse in their eye, Bon Scott used to embody the real spirit of AC/DC, with a voice that had enough grit that made you want to get into trouble whenever you heard it.
For as much kickass is on this record, it's actually funny considering that these guys don't really consider themselves anything other than just standard rock and roll. Sure, it might fit nicely amid your Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, but it's just plugging into a amp and cranking it at the end of the day.
While this kind of thing seems like rock and roll at its most simplistic, no one can really provide the same kind of swing that these guys had in their prime.
