10 Hard Rock Albums You Need To Listen To With Headphones

8. A Night At The Opera - Queen

Every other rock band is known to go through an experimental phase in the studio. From micing the snare drum a different way to backward vocal takes, each artist wants to use the studio to its fullest extent to get the best sounds they've ever heard. Whereas other bands dabbled in studio trickery, Queen proved to be the real mad scientists on A Night At the Opera.

With the studio as their canvas, the band set out to write the best record they have ever made, as each song wiped out the previous one. The first thing you notice is the vocals, which have been laid over almost 9 times every time a harmony comes in. Though the band were known for their professionalism, the amount of sonic Easter Eggs are endless, from Roger Taylor's tap dancing fingers on "Seaside Rendezvous" to the jazz band on "Good Company," which was created solely from Brian May's guitar.

On the other hand, Freddie Mercury is the real star of the show, whose vocals soar across different genres, from ragtime songs to progressive rock epics. Also, if you happen to not be aware of 20th century music, "Bohemian Rhapsody" is a complete listening experience unto itself. This album might not be hard rock from front to back, but anyone interested in rock music should give this a listen at least once.
