10 Hard Rock Bands That Completely Changed Their Sound
1. Metallica
There are countless bands who go through different periods in their sonic evolution. Whether it's finding the right sound or experimenting with different styles, going outside your comfort zone has been the norm for many rock acts. That being said, no band has been picked apart more for their changing sound than Metallica.
At the start of their career, the band were one of the gnarliest bands to come out of the thrash scene with fast riffs undercut by a punk rock attitude. Even when the band was changing up their sound with more epic songs, fans still seemed to be along for the ride.
Once the 90's rolled around, OG Metallica fans saw things starting to unravel. Though the Black Album was an undisputed triumph, it showed the band becoming less of a heavy metal act and delving into the world of hard rock. With each subsequent record, the band have tinkered with their sound from bluesy sections on Load and Reload to the nu metal flirtations on St. Anger.
The fans are not always happy with these changes, but the group's resiliency to take chances has led them to cover more territory than any other metal act going today. We may be a far cry from Kill Em All these days, but the songs still pack one hell of a punch.
