10 Hard Rock Bands That Completely Changed Their Sound
3. Rush
Rush is probably one of the first bands that come to mind when describing the prog rock scene of the 70's. This power trio were true masters of the genre, with many classics that had bold stories and epic tunes that even expanded beyond 20 minutes. As the band reached the end of the decade though, change was in the air.
The band had been experimenting with more sounds on each passing record, but it wasn't until the new wave movement started that the band really felt comfortable to expand upon their musical vision. Their masterpiece Moving Pictures showed them taking on different synthesizer sounds that made for great singles like "Limelight" and "Tom Sawyer."
Throughout the 80's, the band ventured further into the electronic movement, with albums like Grace Under Pressure and Hold Your Fire placing more of an emphasis on the keyboards rather than the crunchy guitar riffs of their early years.
Though more seasoned rock fans tuned out for much of this period, there are still fantastic songs to be found on these records that hit as hard as their previous work. People may have missed the more metallic sounds of the band's 70's run, but the way the band continued to reach for sounds on every project make them the definition of a true prog act.
