10 Hard Rock Bands That Totally Sold Out
7. Linkin Park
Linkin Park were one of the few saving graces of the last days of nu metal. After the genre's inception with bands like Kor, the genre seemed to be getting too goofy for its own good. Once this collective from California unleashed their anger on record, angry teenagers finally had a fresh new sound to latch onto.
The band's debut Hybrid Theory sold in droves, but the band may have even topped themselves with Meteora just a few years later. As the years went on though, the nu metal tag seemed to feel more and more dated, which led to the band running as fast as they could away from their more angsty music. On Minutes to Midnight, the band quickly shifted their sound into alternative rock territory.
Many fans may have felt burned by this shift in direction, but the actual material on Linkin Park's post-Meteora work is not as horrid as you would think. The band had created a brilliant concept album centered around electronic music as well as a return to heavy metal on the Hunting Party. Sure, there have been more than a few blemishes on the band's discography, but they have been able to earn their stripes across multiple genres with incredible ease.
