10 Hard Rock Live Albums You Need To Hear
7. No Sleep Till Hammersmith - Motorhead
No matter how many times they were stuck with the heavy metal tag, Motorhead always remained a rock and roll band.
Yeah, it may have been filtered through a bit of a gruffer lens than many were accustomed to, but Lemmy's goal was always to serve the old time rock and roll of Chuck Berry and Little Richard...at music's highest decibels. Even if the band didn't embrace their heavy title, No Sleep Til Hammersmith is some of the most blistering rock and roll ever to hit a stage.
As the title implies, this album is more or less a document of the band's tour until they finally arrive at the Hammersmith Odeon. Once they get there though, they shake the foundations with their sound, with Phil Taylor's drumming having the strength to make the entire world move. Though Eddie Clarke brings a punk edge to these tunes, Lemmy is clearly the driving force, as his rumbling bass sends you screaming into every track on the record.
Assembling some of the band's best material onto one record, this is the album that you listen to when you outgrow the cleaner rock and roll and discover the harsher side of life. No chaser for this one...this is a straight shot you won't forget any time soon.
