10 Hard Rock Musicians That Died Too Soon
3. Kurt Cobain - Nirvana
If you were a rock fan in the early 90's, it seemed to go without saying that you liked Nirvana. Regardless of genre, this trio out of Seattle quickly surfaced with "Smells Like Teen Spirit," which jettisoned the hair metal scene off the map and paved the way for the new alternative revolution. Though Kurt Cobain was known as the godfather of the movement, things started to get really painful behind the scenes.
Throughout the band's tenure, Cobain had been nursing a chronic stomach ailment that he could only numb through using heroin. After the band hit it big with their sophomore album Nevermind, Cobain found himself hating the new celebrity lifestyle that he had built up. While In Utero was a heavier record for the band, the more depressive themes hinted at something much more troubling.
After years of dealing with his personal problems and losing his love for playing music, Cobain was found in early April of 1994, having died of a shotgun wound in his home. Even if Cobain didn't feel that he had anything else to give the world, the music that he created while in Nirvana has remained a touchstone for modern rock and will blow minds in 2041 the same way it did in 1991.
