10 Hard Rock Musicians Who Outshined The Lead Singer
7. Angus Young - AC/DC
Once you hear AC/DC for the first time, you never really forget it. Whether it's the early days with Bon Scott or their meteoric rise with Brian Johnson, the band's star power has always been built on the foundation of pure rock and roll. Both frontmen for the band have possessed that trademark snarl, but there's no avoiding the guitarist in the schoolboy uniform.
In the early days, AC/DC were known as a wild band, but Angus Young's way of asserting himself onstage was the pure embodiment of rock's power. A lot of his moves were a throwback to the old school of rock like Chuck Berry's duckwalk, but the real magic came when it was time for him to solo. Taking center stage, Young always flailed around among his bandmates until he was down on the floor shredding his heart out.
It's almost become a cliche for a guitar player to get down on their knees when playing an emotional solo, but this was something different. From the sudden jolts of energy radiating from his performance, it almost felt like Angus could explode right before your eyes while he played. Even though his brother Malcolm was content to hang in the background, Angus Young has been the one keeping the AC/DC ship afloat for decades.
