10 Hard Rock Musicians Who Outshined The Lead Singer
2. Slash - Guns N Roses
When Guns N Roses broke onto the hair metal scene in the late 80's, fans were awestruck by what they were hearing. Sure, it had that same accessible energy of the other hair bands on the scene, but there was a certain energy to these guys that made them feel like the real deal. Even though Axl Rose was the band's leader of destruction, Slash was (and is) everything that you think a rock star should be.
Clad in his trademark hat, Slash is one of the most lyrical guitar players, whose licks could be a hook in and of themselves. Though members like Izzy Stradlin and Duff McKagan should not be overlooked by any stretch, Slash has the complete package of what it means to be a rock and roller. Instead of taking the regular shred approach that a lot of his contemporaries were doing, Slash stripped it all down to basics by combining the styles of Jimmy Page and Joe Perry to create the ultimate rock and roll beast.
Given his magnetic stage presence and mysterious nature offstage, the band almost had two frontmen for the price of one with Axl and Slash. Guns N Roses may be the iconic name, but no matter how many times their songs are played on the radio, chances are you'll have Slash in your mind shredding without a care in the world.
