10 Hard Rock Songs By The Beatles

4. I Want You (She's So Heavy)

After the disastrous sessions for the Get Back project, the Fabs wanted to wash their hands of the band and splinter into their own solo projects. Though the tension may have been high between the Fab Four, the band regrouped to create one more record to leave their fans with, which resulted in their masterwork Abbey Road.

The band took proper care of each of the members' songs to make them absolutely extraordinary, with John Lennon's "I Want You" being their most adventurous. Starting off as a minimalist exercise, the song is Lennon's artistic homage to his wife Yoko Ono, with some of the most abstract sounds of the era. The song's beginnings are certainly familiar with the bluesy counterpoint, but the song opens up in the back half with an almost circular sounding riff that puts the listener into an almost delirious state.

Along with the overwhelming riff, Lennon also offers some of his greatest screams on record, as he seems almost uninhibited as he spews raw emotion out of his throat. While the song was one of the first tracks tackled, it was the last to be finalized by all four members, marking the last time the Beatles came together as creative partners.
