10 Hard Rock Songs That Almost Killed Great Albums

4. I Was Made For Lovin You - KISS

As the '70s came to a close, KISS were not in a good frame of mind at all. Despite being one of the top concert draws of the last few years and being some of the biggest rock stars on the planet, the inflated egos of each member could no longer be ignored. After cutting separate solo albums, Paul Stanley thought he found a way for them to reach the top once again: DISCO.

On its own, I Was Made For Lovin You is one of the most blatant cash-grabs in the KISS catalog, with Stanley playing up the glammy side of his singing to the fullest extent. Compared to other opening tracks like I Want You and Detroit Rock City, this was one of the worst first impressions any KISS album had given, with fans seething at what they had just heard.

What makes it even more tragic is that Dynasty is actually a pretty great record, if not for this one song to kick off everything. However, time has been nice to this track over the years, as the band have since turned it into one of the greatest rockers onstage, packing the punch that the studio recording never could. Even though every act is free to experiment as they see fit, I Was Made For Lovin You marks the first of many times when a KISS album actively felt disingenuous.
