10 Heavy Metal Bands Genuinely Progressing The Genre

8. The Hu

As an art form, Heavy Metal has historically been very Western-centric in its focus. From the first bands lurching from England’s Proto-Metal primordial soup in the 70s to the advances in hardcore punk and thrash from America in the 80s, it wasn’t until the success of Brazil’s Sepultura in the late 80s that the rest of the world even got their foot in the door.

As the decades have worn on and the world has shrunk with the advent of the internet, bands from lesser known corners of the world have begun to make their mark, and none have made that mark more prominently than The Hu.

Self described as players of ‘hunnu rock’, the band’s exclusively Mongolian lyrics and traditional instruments such as the impressive horsehead fiddle are mixed perfectly with the sorts of driving rhythms and rousing choruses that could soundtrack the storming of an ancient fortification, or at the very least one hell of a moshpit.

Although similar bands have come and gone before, none have managed to do it with quite the same level of influence as these four musical maestros, and their efforts have opened the door wide for a renewed interest in global Metal, progressing the genre far and wide.
