10 Heavy Metal Bands Genuinely Progressing The Genre
5. Igorrr
Ask yourself this, how many bands to you know who can count a chicken as a founding member? Playing the piano by picking seeds thrown on to the keys, said chicken (Patrick, to you and I) is the pet of certifiable evil genius Gautier Serre, and adds his eclectic playing method to the complete oddity that is Igorrr.
A project birthed by the single minded determination of someone unafraid to push the boundaries, Igorrr is the musical equivalent of throwing Aphex Twin, Cannibal Corpse and Chopin into a blender and holding a microphone over the chaos.
Originally a solo project, Serre spent the 2010s releasing low key but strikingly bizarre compositions that shifted genre as often as they did tempo, by layering operatic singing over furious blast beats before shifting course into glitchy trip-hop and guttural screams.
However, following the release of ‘Savage Sinusoid’ in 2017, Igorrr has since grown into a full band, and, with the Eastern elements woven into 2020 follow up ‘Spirituality & Distortion’, it’s clear that this idiosyncratic train thundering over new horizons is losing no steam in a hurry.
