10 Hidden Songs You Didn't Know Were On Albums
4. Black Sabbath - Blow On A Jug
The Writ finalises the 1975 classic Black Sabbath album, Sabotage, however some versions of the record feature the song Blow on a Jug coming in at the end.
As the story goes, Black Sabbath were performing in 1970 before getting massively upstaged by the British rock band Mungo Jerry and their instrumentalist playing the Jug. Sabbath lead singer Ozzy Osbourne couldn’t believe it and set out to feature the instrument in his own album. As The Writ ends with the band recreating a snippet of Alice Coopers ‘Only Women Bleed’, in comes the jug and the almost comical lyrics about blowing on the instrument come in.
The song is a silly little ditty and is extremely quiet so at the time of release many people didn’t even know it existed. It’s nature makes it perfect for a hidden track and as a result many hardcore Sabbath fans have gone out desperately seeking the original promo copies of Sabotage to own a rare version featuring Blow on a Jug.
