10 Hits You Didn't Realise Sampled Other Songs
5. Crazy In Love - Beyoncé
A massive hit for Beyoncé, which kick-started her solo career, Crazy In Love hit the number one spot on both sides of the Atlantic, and in numerous other countries worldwide. The debut single from her 2003 debut album, Dangerously In Love, the song featured Beyoncé's future-husband, Jay-Z. Beyoncé, already a successful recording artist as part of Destiny's Child, stepped up to whole new level of fame.
Written by Beyoncé and Jay-Z, in collaboration with songwriters and producers Rich Harrison and Eugene Record, Crazy In Love's memorable hook, a one-bar looping horn riff, was lifted from a 1970 song, Are You My Woman (Tell Me So) by Chicago-based R&B/Soul group, The Chi-Lites.
The-Chi-Lites heyday, from the late '60s to the early '70s, saw them achieve an impressive eleven top ten hits on the R&B charts, 21 on the Billboard Pop chart. Are You My Woman is something of an anomaly in the band's extensive discography, in that their usual fare consisted of slower tempo, laid-back grooves.
