10 Huge Rock Albums That Didn't Deserve To Flop
1. Be Here Now - Oasis
For as long as it's been released, there has still been no real consensus among fans and critics about Oasis' Be Here Now. Even though it seemed to capitalize on every single promise that the Gallagher Brothers made in the early years of the band, you also have a lot of fans pointing to this album as the moment where everything went wrong, with even Noel dogging on it in recent years. Then again, it's not like the Gallaghers didn't keep their promise or anything.
Across every one of these songs, this was Oasis staking their claim as the biggest band in the world, with songs that were way longer than they were before and having some of the biggest production elements thus far. While the main argument is the record got swallowed up in the production side of things, the maximal approach to everything fits right in with the Gallaghers' style, aiming to be bigger than their musical heroes could have ever dreamed of being. If you take away the crummy production job, these are still great songs, from the heartwrenching vocal performance from Liam on Don't Go Away to the answer to a song like Hey Jude in All Around the World.
The real damage to Oasis' career was to come though, with the extended hiatus after this album snuffing out their momentum and not being able to rekindle the same fire that they had in the early days. For their classic period though, Be Here Now is by no means a loss of momentum. If anything, it's a victory lap for everything they had already accomplished.
