10 Huge Songs You Wrongly Thought Got To Number One

2. Oasis - Wonderwall

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6hzrDeceEKc And the penultimate track on our list goes to the quintessential busker cover song. Yes of course it had to be the melancholic brooder 'Wonderwall'. I dare you to find someone over the age of 13 who doesn't know the song from start to finish. I still to this day don't quite know what a Wonderwall is. But does anyone really know? We've all sang along arms on each other's shoulders and screamed the words "I said maybe" into each other's eardrums. All we know is that it strikes a chord in all of us and unites people in song. There's no denying this song has just found a home as part of British culture. It may be a ridiculously simple repetitive chord which anyone with a basic grasp of a guitar can play, but therein lies its universal appeal; a middleclass lullaby that's emotionally bittersweet and we all know. It's mind-boggling thinking that it was beaten by a Robson & Jerome double A side CD of 'I Believe' and 'Up on the Roof' to the top spot. The British public should be ashamed of that fact, in all honesty.
