10 Incredible Musical Side Projects

2. Temple Of The Dog

Mother Love Bone was poised to become one of the greatest bands of the 90's. The group had a grunge groove but with an undeniable frontman in vocalist Andy Wood. But it was not be. As the band prepared to release their debut record, Wood overdosed on heroin and died before the record hit shelves, leaving the band devastated and unsure of where to go.

At the same time, Soundgarden frontman and close friend Chris Cornell began writing songs in tribute to Andy. After completing 10 song ideas, Cornell approached the band about recording the songs as a tribute to their late frontman.

The Temple of the Dog project unfolded over weeks as the band recorded with Cornell while trying to find another singer. When the band began jamming with Eddie Vedder, they brought him along to the Temple of the Dog sessions to record backing vocals on some of the tracks.

After the record was released, Temple of the Dog disbanded as Cornell returned to Soundgarden and what was once Mother Love Bone continued on with Vedder to form the grunge icons Pearl Jam. While never fully revisited, this album stands as a touching tribute and a true classic from the grunge era.
