Cash was a celebrated country and Americana singer who had been performing since the '50s. An iconic voice, look and knack for songwriting made him one of - if not the - biggest crossover stars in country music.
After being one of several country musicians to suffer from drastic changes to the music industry in the early '90s, Cash signed a deal with American Records and worked almost exclusively with famed producer Rick Rubin. The signing resulted in a career rejuvenation for Cash, despite his accruing health issues.
