10 Legendary Songs That Were Completely Improvised

9. Don't Look Back In Anger - Oasis

If you were to ask Noel Gallagher, the stars were aligned in just the right way when he sat down to write Don't Look Back In Anger. As the rest of the Oasis gang went out partying after the success of Definitely Maybe, Noel turned in early one night and sat down with his guitar to flesh out what would become his masterpiece. And it all seemed to happen in one go...except for the bulletproof chorus.

For the longest time, Noel had the main melody of the chorus without any of the words to go along with it. Framing the whole thing in the vein of John Lennon's Imagine, Noel would frequently play the song at soundcheck to flesh it out while singing the melody phonetically. As much as he might not like to admit it though, the inspiration behind this song may have had a bit of help from R'Kid.

During one of the many rehearsals leading up to gigs, Liam casually asked Noel who Sally was, thinking that was what Noel had been saying when he was singing the melody. Taking the idea and running with it, Noel's anthem turned into a compassionate breakup song, as he chooses to not look back on those old times in a bitter context. Now if only we could get confirmation that that girl is Sally Cinnamon from the Stone Roses song, the entire Britpop extended universe would fall into place.
