10 Live Covers Of Hard Rock Songs You Need To Hear
5. Elephant - The Wiggles
Yes, you read that right. The Wiggles performed a live version of Tame Impala's Elephant. This doesn't fit into the category of good covers, or bad covers, it's simply a cover you need to experience.
The YouTube show, Like A Version, has given us some interesting live covers over the years. From Glass Animals' sensual take on Kanye West's, Love Lockdown, to Tim Minchin's bizarre accordion rendition of Billie Eilish's Bad Guy. However, nothing has quite come close to this performance by The Wiggles.
For over a decade, Kevin Parker has slowly infiltrated the musical zeitgeist via his project Tame Impala, and it seems even children's musical group The Wiggles couldn't resist trying their hand at this particular brand of slightly derivative pop-rock.
Technically, this performance is really tight, and The Wiggles can certainly carry a tune. It's just a bizarre experience, enhanced tenfold by bass player Anthony Field donning a giant elephant head, complete with a hypnotising swinging trunk. Where it all comes together, however, is when The Wiggles break into a chorus of their classic jingle, Fruit Salad. Then it all starts to make sense (kind of).
The first viewing might leave you in shocked confusion, but by the time you get to round three or four, you will be eager to join in with the Fruit Salad chorus. After the last year, we've needed this. Yummy yummy.
