10 Live Songs Better Than The Studio Recordings

8. New York Minute - Eagles

After over a decade of bad blood and solo albums, the Eagles finally buried the hatchet and got back together in the mid-90's. Instead of just cutting a new album right from the start, the group put out a live album entitled Hell Freezes Over, which displayed a runthrough of their stellar 70's run.

Along with the mandatory sunny rock hits from their early years, the band also included one song from Don Henley's solo career in "New York Minute," whose sonic presence is something to behold. The song was always a standout in Henley's discography, but the band bring an added dimension to the music that was never there. The opening piano chords sound absolutely chilling as they seep into your brain while Timothy B. Schmidt delivers exquisite bass fills to move the track along.

Once the band hits the first chorus, the song opens up to create a beautiful sonic tapestry that just couldn't be done on the original recording. In lieu of Henley's original vocals, the addition of the band's harmonies bring the song from a standout track to one of the greatest Eagles songs that never was. It was a long road to get back from the breakup, but songs like these show that the chemistry of these LA rockers never faded.
