10 Mainstream Acts That The 'Real Music Fans' Need To Check Out

5. Disclosure

Who'd have known that a relatively new movement for modern UK pop would be spawned in €“ of all places €“ Reigate. Surrey brothers Guy and Howard Lawrence have laid catchy songs on various beds of 4/4 house for only a couple of years now, but they've already managed to influence dozens of new acts, whilst simultaneously gaining themselves a solid reputation. Deviating between pure dance ragers such as 'Stimulation' and hybrid singles like 'Latch' and 'White Noise', Disclosure showcase an uncanny talent for both songwriting tact and T-shirt-shedding energy. Their minimalist funky electro schtick is the sort of thing that can now be heard in clubs, pubs and dentist waiting rooms everywhere. But of course to write pop songs, the duo need vocals, so they've managed to select a stellar group of guests, that might not be household names, but do have enough talent to roll off the tongue of someone who spends a lot of time in H&M. Whether they audibly transform into confident backing for a black female gospel singer like Sam Smith, or channel the spirit of a small child like Aluna Francis, the duo choose distinctive voices rather than technically proficient ones, lending each song a character of it's own. 'Real music fans' will no doubt enjoy the legitimacy and style of Disclosure, and since there's only one album, it'd be practically impossible to get bored of them. It's hard to predict whether they'll keep the quality up, but for now, they're definitely ones to watch.
