10 Massive Albums That Never Lived Up To The Hype

1. Be Here Now - Oasis

By the time 1995 rolled around, Oasis could practically do no wrong. As opposed to the sad sounds of grunge, it felt like the golden age of the ‘60s came back for a little while on records like Definitely Maybe and What’s the Story Morning Glory, blowing people’s minds and Noel Gallagher giving us the kind of unashamed rock and roll that most of us hadn’t heard since the days of the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. These guys were also living the rock star lifestyle though, and that made for an absolute trainwreck when they went into what they thought was going to be the best album of their career.

Although the plan was to go even bigger than before, Be Here Now just feels like too much hitting you all at once, taking the charm of the classic Oasis sound and blowing it up too large to where you can barely make it out. Though the songs on here are at the very least decent, part of the problem with the record is just how much is going on in it, taking the basic sounds of Oasis and stretching them out far too long, with perfect 4 minute songs being 7 minutes now for no other reason than to just have long songs.

There also comes a problem with the actual mixing, with every single overdub of guitar making for a pure wall of noise that tends to grate on the ears rather than make you want to press play and listen to the whole thing over again. The old Oasis is still there somewhere screeching to be let loose, but Be Here Now has them trapped under mountains of guitars, enlarged egos, and a whole bunch of cocaine.
