10 Metal Songs Inspired By Famous Movies

3. The Wicker Man – Iron Maiden

Inspiration: The Wicker Man

Iron Maiden’s twelfth studio album (Brave New World) saw the return of frontman Bruce Dickinson and guitarist Adrian Smith, and the first single from the album made for a great comeback.

‘The Wicker Man’ was inspired by the classic horror movie of the same name, which some consider to be the Citizen Kane of British horror movies. Though the song isn’t as creepy as the movie is, the lyrical content adds an extra layer of unease.

The line ‘your time will come’ – which repeats multiple times throughout the song – is a grim reference to the fate of the movie’s central protagonist, who ends up being burnt alive inside a giant statue of the Wicker Man.

Interestingly, Dickinson made a song inspired by the Wicker Man during his solo career. Though the lyrics are closer to the themes of the movie, the track by Iron Maiden is vastly superior.
