10 Modern Albums That Prove Psychedelia Is Alive And Well
3. Animal Collective - Feels
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gqvBoFpgXQAThe romantic, emotional nature of this 2005 work takes Animal Collective the closest they have ever come to making an honest-to-goodness rock album. There is a warmth not seen on many of their other albums that makes this one so inviting.
Great emotion in music always seems to be in spite of something, and this sentiment is echoed throughout most of Animal Collective's work. It is made clear that things have not been fantastic for the singer in question, and this celebration is a temporary moment away from suffering. Pain is being avoided at all costs, but still remembered in bits and pieces.
Psychedelia on Animal Collective's albums are not hard to come by, and this feeling is mostly conjured by their instrumentation. On this album in particular, the music is provided by slightly out of tune piano loops and guitars, adding to the overall dreamy quality.
Feels is another album in their discography that veers into themes of innocence, and while the album sticks to this theme very heavily it does not get exhausting. It brims with young emotion.
