Somewhere between the categories of folk-rock and psychedelic trip-hop, you'll find The Flaming Lips. There is lots of bizarre sounds on this album, but even with all the instruments trying to find a way through the multitude of effects, you don't ever get the sense there's too much going on. All the textures just add to the strange but rather enjoyable soundscape that's being created.
Kevin Parker has stated his work with Tame Impala has been inspired by The Flaming Lips, but that would be an understatement.
