10 More Perfect Rock Albums Of The 80s With No Bad Songs

6. The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses (1989)

Although not an overtly political album, this was a working-class middle finger to the Tory government. Maggie Thatcher might have done away with the trade unions and implemented the 'poll tax', but she wasn't going to stop people from having a good time, not if The Stone Roses had anything to say about it...

Opening with the dreamscape melody, I Wanna Be Adored, was a sure way to ease listeners in to what the band had to offer. The steady rumbling of Mani's bass followed by the falling water guitar riff set a certain ambience to this record. Listeners were left with one thought - this was going to be a trip.

Throughout the album you're treated to a plethora of irresistibly jaunty psych-bop melodies, which are enough to expel all notions of an oppressive government. It's the perfect mixture of '60s psychedelia, catchy guitar hooks, dance bop rhythms and cheeky Northern swagger.

The band saved their magnum opus for last, though. Fools Gold finished the record perfectly, by introducing indie rock to rave culture.
