10 Most Controversial Hard Rock Songs Of All Time
5. Disasterpiece - Slipknot
From an outsider’s perspective, it’s pretty understandable why your average suburban parents would not be all that enamored with a band like Slipknot. Given the band’s abrasive sound and lyrics of abuse and pain, the band aren’t exactly the sunniest of acts. Even though everything was just about unleashing anger, some people took it to an unthinkable level.
Coming off of their heavy opus Iowa, “Disasterpiece” is one of the band’s most hard hitting songs, but some more deranged individuals had a few different ideas about the song’s meaning. Back in 2003, this song ended up becoming a lot darker when it allegedly inspired a couple to kill someone. While the band was absolutely horrified about the impact the song had, others started to see it as validation for the negative effects that harsh music can have on mentally unstable people.
Ever since, Slipknot have always made it a priority to use their music as an escape from the awful parts of life rather than using it as a fuel for violence. Though the band has still gotten plenty of accusations of being evil, their songs still hold up as some of the greatest heavy metal of the ‘00s. Slipknot may sound like they’re playing from the depths of Hell, but it only takes one bad decision for that hellish behaviour to find its way into reality.
