10 Most Controversial Music Videos Ever
6. Robbie Williams - Rock DJ
Robbie Williams is a rebel in the same way that Dick Dastardly is a villain. It’s like he is, but he isn’t really.
Williams started out as the most superfluous member of British boy band Take That, causing a bit of a media storm when he quit the group. He then tried to cultivate a bit of a bad boy image, but it always felt like he was one of those Y7 lads hanging out with the Y10s, trying to impress them by swearing.
His solo career had a rocky start, but a few singles in he released the smash hit Angels. The piano ballad didn’t fit with the image he’d been building, but the public absolutely loved it.
From then on, Williams was more of a cheeky chappie than an out and out rebel. It was a surprise then that his video for Rock DJ from his third album seemed to go back to his attention seeking rebelliousness.
It features Williams dancing and stripping surrounded by roller blading girls, revealing tiger print underwear. Pretty standard Williams fare, so far. What put people off though was that Williams then ripped off his own skin and bloody muscles to reveal a skeleton. Bit weird.
