10 Most Disturbing Music Videos In Hard Rock
3. Rooster - Alice in Chains
A lot of people tend to rag on the alternative scene about being too melodramatic about their problems, and it's not hard to see why. I mean, if you were looking at any band coming from the grunge scene like Nirvana or Pearl Jam, they were much more concerned about their internal struggles rather than having a party every time they were onscreen. If you were looking for something a bit closer to reality though, Alice in Chains treated us to a journey through the hells of war.
Written about Jerry Cantrell's father serving in the Vietnam War, the video for Rooster opens with footage of Mr. Cantrell being interviewed before cutting to the simulation of the Rooster making his way through the jungle. As the track continues to build, you start to get a sense of the horrors all around him until everything starts turning to chaos in the chorus, with limbs being torn off and our protagonist seeing his brothers in arms being torn to shreds all around him.
Though the band still get plenty of screentime outside of the war pieces, the terrifying look into the dangers of war is enough to give even the most celebrated documentaries a run for their money. The Rooster may have walked away with his life intact by the end, but he has seen things than no other man should ever have to witness.
