2000’s White Pony had seen collaborator Frank Delgado join the band on a full time basis, after his guest performances on previous album Around The Fur. His samples, keyboard work and turntablism were a key factor in expanding Deftones’ sound, allowing them to experiment sonically and move away from nu-metal to something more interesting.

His presence is felt throughout White Pony, and one of the best example of his sometimes understated yet essential work is Digital Bath, the second song on the album (or the third if you have the re-released version).

It used the quiet-LOUD-quiet ethic of bands like The Pixies, yet has an underlying menace that seems to pervade every single part of its mother album. Despite having some of the prettiest passages Deftones have ever committed to tape, Chino Moreno has admitted the song is lyrically very, very dark: "It was probably 5 in the morning, we were still up partying, and I just pictured this whole scenario of having this girl, bringing her downstairs and taking a bath and like, out of nowhere, just reaching back and electrocuting her. Basically throwing some kind of electrical device in the bathtub and then taking her out of the bath and drying her off and putting her clothes back on."
