10 Most Hated Classic Rock Bands Of All Time
5. Rush
Rush have been one of the go-tos for hard rock geeks the world over since the 70's. With their complex prog epics and amazing musicianship, the band have more than earned their spot as certified rock gods with bands like Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd. You wouldn't have known that by hearing their first critics though.
Throughout the band's early period, they were torn to shreds by the bigwigs of the music press for their complicated sound and what they thought was a "tedious" form of rock music. When combing through the more offensive works of the critics, people tend to rag on Rush because of the high-end voice of Geddy Lee, which has been described as sounding like everything from a demon to a guinea pig screaming in agony.
Even though everything is relative to taste, the dramatic shift in stature the band has gotten over the years proves that their critics didn't have the first clue as to what this band was about. Sure, their songs were a bit more complicated than most, but they never had to sacrifice a great hook in order to make their colossal hits. They may have been "nerd rock," but all of the rancor fades away once you sit down and listen to the music.
