The best rock bands are the ones that make you feel like there is no barrier between the musicians and the audience. Regardless of the more manufactured parts of the music business, many acts have proven themselves to be just as down to earth as the people in the crowd. On the other hand, if you only see your music as a marketing tool to profit off teenagers, you're gonna get a lot of hate thrown your way. Enter: KISS.
I will go so far as to admit that KISS at their start had a pretty great idea in mind for the rock collective: to make the best stage show ever seen. Ever since the band's first big break with Alive! though, Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons have become two of the most savvy businessmen who just happen to play guitars, with songs that veer on the wrong side of cringey.
Even away from music, Simmons is known as one of the more insufferable rockstars out there, whose holier-than-thou attitude towards fans and colleagues has rubbed many people the wrong way. Songs like "Detroit Rock City" may still kick ass by today's standards, but the amazing moments this band has to offer tends to get overshadowed by their more egregious behaviour.
