10 Most Hated Grunge Albums Of All Time
6. Silver Side Up - Nickelback
A lot of the more rank albums to come out of the genre tend to fall under the label of what is known as post-grunge. While still under the grunge umbrella, there has never really been too many consistent post-grunge acts outside of the Foo Fighters, who tend to get a pass due to the charm and credibility of Dave Grohl. On the other side of the spectrum though, you get something like Silver Side Up.
As opposed to just use this as an excuse to hate on Nickelback, there was still potential at this point in their career. Coming off of their indie release The State, there actually seemed to be a little bit of song power in their delivery, and even How You Remind Me was pretty impeccably arranged for an opening single. Then again, the hated grunge albums aren't always bad...disappointment is worse.
Aside from How You Remind Me, this is the start of Nickelback settling into some really bad habits, from copying the same cliched chord progressions in every other song to Chad Kroeger dialing in his voice to just the right amount of grit to grate on your eardrums. Even though this is the album that made them international superstars, Silver Side Up marked the beginning of a dark age for rock and roll, with mediocrity almost becoming the norm. Prepare yourselves...it goes down from here.
