10 Most Important Member Changes In Rock Music History

9. Rod Stewart & Ronnie Wood Replace Steve Marriott - Faces

The late Steve Marriott is widely regarded as one of the most underrated singers in rock history.

With his band Small Faces, Marriott won over legions of fans with songs like Itchycoo Park, Lazy Sunday, and Tin Soldier. Then, just when the band were reaching their apex, Marriott quit the band in dramatic fashion by storming off stage at a New Year's Eve gig.

Maybe he was just in a hurry to watch the fireworks?

This left the band in a bit of a tight spot. Marriott was easily the most popular member of the group, so they'd need to bring in a future legend to replace him. As it turns out, they brought in two.

Singer Rod Stewart and guitarist Ronnie Wood were both formerly members of The Jeff Beck Group. They teamed up with the original Small Faces line-up, dropping the "Small" part of their name to carry on as just Faces to great success.

Wood would go on to join The Rolling Stones in 1975 and as for Rod, well he's that weird old bloke your aunt always screams for when he comes on the telly.
