10 Most Innovative Rock Acts Of The 2010s

2. Emma Ruth Rundle

Ever wanted someone to blend folk music with a bit of sludge-core? Look no further. Emma Ruth Rundle's has that particular blend of seemingly opposing genres nailed down.

The result is a hauntingly beautiful body of work, that packs an emotional punch, while still giving you an injection of hard rock. Her songs often run hot and cold, with a distinctly Pixies style, of pulling back during the verses and going hard on the chorus. This approach serves to balance her ethereal and at times fragile voice from becoming lost in all the swirling distorted chords that get dropped all over her tracks.

You do get the sense that when she' singing in a more fragile style it's all for effect, however. She isn't limited in her approach and when required can belt the notes out with all the power needed to resonate over the music.

As the title would imply, her 2018 record On Dark Horses, was an ominous exploration of genre fusing, which only leaves you wanting more. But fear not, she opened up this decade with two equally powerful albums.
