10 Most Obscure Punk Bands Of All Time

4. The Stains

Yet another influential band from L.A., The Stains formed in '76 and are credited as being one of the first bands to push beyond punk into thrash metal territory. Jesus Amezquita (guitar), Robert Becerra (guitar), Ceasar Viscarra (bass) Gilbert Berumen (drums) and Rudy Navarro (vocals) proved good enough to catch the attention of fellow legendary punk outfit, Black Flag, who released the band's 1983 self-titled debut on their own SST Records label.

The Stains were noted for their incendiary live shows, with a contemporary issue of Los Angeles Magazine stating the group were "punk rock enough...to leave a pool of blood on the stage's wood beams."

Despite the promise shown on their long-player, and stints supporting the likes of Husker Du, the band failed to release a follow-up. In the late-'80s and early '90s they performed irregular live shows with a rotating line-up. Founding members Bederra, Navarro, Viscarra and Berumen re-united in the 2000s as Jack Lopez, before once again disbanding in 2014.
