10 Most Outspoken Men In Rock And Metal History

1. John Lydon

"Anger is an energy", and no person in music history has been able to harness it quite like John Lydon. A man who has thrived off reactionism from the very conception of his career, the fabled Johnny Rotten is regarded as a punk pioneer by some, and a fortunate loudmouth who happened to be in the right place at the right time by others.

Lydon has always been at the centre of controversy, starting with the Grundy Show Incident on Thames TV with Sex Pistols, where they swore repeatedly and made national headlines as a result. He later earned a BBC ban for ousting Jimmy Saville as a paedophile. On top of this, he called private school attendees "little snobs", then said working class folks were "lazy, good-for-nothing b*stards".

It's hard to tell what the Public Image Ltd frontman truly believes. His most recent outrage sparking antics saw him posing in a 'Make America Great Again' shirt before the 2020 US election, but can we be completely sure that Lydon agrees with Trump? Or any political ideology, for that matter? Lydon is a master of making himself the centre of attention by stirring strong emotions from the public. Since that infamous Thames TV interview, Lydon has known exactly what buttons to push and to this day, the general public still have no idea how to handle him.
