10 Most Overhated Bands In Rock
8. Linkin Park
While it's one thing to write off a certain band from your youth, some music fans have gone too far the other way and purged entire genres from their existence. Out of all the more cringey genres through the years, nu metal has typically gotten the most vitriol because of the melodramatic lyrics and cartoonish approach to what was initially a heavy genre. Linkin Park tend to get brought up as one of those whiney acts, but there's tons of great material that these guys have put out.
Across albums like Hybrid Theory and Meteora, the band tapped into an inner melancholy that was far removed from the off-hand complaining of other acts. Rather than turning their anger outward on their parents, these songs tapped into an internal frustration with one's self, which is much more captivating than the Limp Bizkits of the world could ever hope to be.
Even after the nu metal tag faded, Linkin Park showed they could stick around with more alternative leaning records like on A Thousand Suns and Minutes to Midnight. It's easy to see Linkin Park as a nostalgia band, but they have been able to grow beyond the nu metal wave and become a major player in the greater conversation of rock bands.
