8. Michael Jackson - Black Or White

Much like Madonna, Michael Jackson has an absurd number of iconic and eye-catching music videos to his name, and though "Thriller" will always be his crowning achievement, it isn't quite as brain-breakingly impressive as the video for Jackson's 1989 hit "Black or White."

The video, directed by John Landis - who previously helmed the Thriller video - memorably features Macaulay Culkin trolling his father and MJ singing in front of various iconic landmarks, but the pièce de résistance comes right at the end.

The final minute of the video sees a diverse cast of models and actors (including a young Tyra Banks) morphing into one another while singing the lyrics to the song.

Even today the effect remains staggeringly impressive, but in decades past, audiences had no idea quite how it was pulled off. The answer, of course, was state-of-the-art digital trickery, the likes of which were in their infancy and yet hold up extremely well.

Anyone who grew up in the '90s no doubt wore out their VHS copy of the music video trying to pinpoint the precise nature of the effect.
