10 Most Underrated Albums In Rock Music History
4. Load/Reload - Metallica
It's time that the people who called Metallica sell outs on the Black Album get over themselves. Since the thrash titans became legends and managed to bring metal to stadiums around the world, it's safe to say that the songs themselves were able to keep the metal genre alive for a few decades over. Once grunge gave way though, we got introduced to Alt-tallica on their two big loads.
After becoming one of the biggest bands in the world though, it almost makes sense that they would try to stretch out a little bit more on these albums. With Bob Rock at the helm again, both of these records sounded amazing, while also bringing in some more heavy metal flair on songs like Fuel and Devil's Dance on Reload. Aside from the ballads though, there's a lot more raw wounds on here, like James Hetfield opening up years before St. Anger on songs like Mama Said and Low Man's Lyric.
Granted, this is not meant to be the same kind of heavy metal band who gave you albums like And Justice for All back in the day. If anything, it fits closer to something that Alice in Chains would have done back in the day. Metallica just happened to shift more into the world of hard rock, and since we know how far they can sink on St. Anger, these are actually pretty fun to revisit.
